A woman is now in the running for mother-of-the-year after throwing her beauty pageant daughter a stunning slumber ‘glamping’ party with supplies from Kmart.
Alexis Turner, from Brisbane, Australia, transformed her living room into a glittering DIY eighth birthday bash for her daughter, Ayva, and 12 other girls using budget decorations from the popular department store.
Speaking with Daily Mail Australia, Alexis says she spent around AUD $400 making her own camp teepees and decorating the room with items from Kmart and Spotlight – a figure that is far cheaper than what many hire companies offer.

‘All the girls loved it. When the parents walked in they said they had never seen anything like it before,’ Alexis said.
‘Ayva had seen other amazing glamping parties online and on Facebook and she loved it, the little campfires were even her idea.’
The mother-of-three and her partner spent $200 on plywood and fabric from Spotlight to build the multi-coloured teepees, which were then adorned with $5 twinkling lights from Kmart.
She then bought 13 Kmart air mattresses for $9 each, log cushions which were only $8 each and $3 LED candles.
To complete the ‘glamping’ aesthetic, Alexis and her daughter used orange and yellow tissue paper wrapped around the LED lights with a painted and cut-up $3 pool noodle to look like logs.

A similar ‘glamping’ experience purchased from an online hire company would have cost Alexis upwards of $1000 for 13 girls – but she managed to spend a little over $400.
‘Ayva helped with a lot of the decorating and she absolutely loved how it turned out,’ Alexis added.
‘The girls were all so excited and had an amazing time playing games and watching movies.’
Alexis says she didn’t anticipate so many of Ayva’s classmates to RSVP to her birthday invitation, and knew she had to put on an amazing show as her three children take turns each year to have a party.

‘The girls all brought their own sleeping bags and pillows as I didn’t want to buy 13 fitted sheets, blankets and pillows that we didn’t need,’ she said.

Her creation attracted thousands of likes and comments from other parents wanting to follow in her footsteps and use Kmart’s budget products for an indoor slumber party.
Another mother shared a similar indoor camping party for her son’s ninth birthday after spending only $200 from Kmart.
Vanessa Adamson used sheets and pillows already purchased from homeware store Adairs and found cheap, reliable teepee-style tents for only $25 each at her local Kmart in Queensland to create an boys slumber party.
