BRICS countries create a forum of the intelligence community

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa agreed to establish a forum of the intelligence community.

According to the report of the security Council of the Russian Federation participated in the meeting, the Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Minister of state security of South Africa Letsatsi-Duba, the head of the Cabinet of institutional security of the President of Brazil Sergio Echegoyen, adviser to the Prime Minister of India on national security Ajit Dov, a member of the Politburo of the Communist party of China, Yang Jiechi.

The parties emphasised their common commitment to cooperation on the prevention and reduction of threats to security and control. Noted the positive contribution of the BRICS countries on issues related to security problems. During the meeting they discussed the situation in various “hot spots” of the world.

Representatives of the BRICS came to the conclusion that in the conditions of preservation of the fragility of peace and stability there is a possibility of degradation of the situation. The parties expressed their General agreement to continue the monitoring of current security threats and cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

The meeting also summed up the results of the working groups of the BRICS’s counter-terrorism and security in the field of information and communication technologies.

This agreement was reached following the meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries, in charge of security issues in Durban (South Africa).

High-level representatives reaffirmed that terrorism is transnational, continues to evolve and requires constant analysis of threats, as well as a five-sided exchange of opinions. BRICS members noted the importance of building a solid Foundation for cooperation in the field of ensuring international information security. Countries-participants of the BRICS will explore the possibility of developing an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in this field.

They also discussed issues related to peacekeeping, and combating transnational crime. Special attention was paid to the fight against international drug trafficking and money laundering obtained by criminal means.

Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev noted that the meeting took place in atmosphere of constructive cooperation and open dialogue, stating that the relevance of joint decisions of the BRICS countries will grow:

“It is no exaggeration to say that the ability of BRICS countries to quickly solve the issues that we discussed today depends not only regional but also global stability. In the world there remains a lot of dividing lines that limit the possibilities of progressive development not only of States “five”, but of all mankind. While maintaining natural barriers associated primarily with the uneven development of individual players in the international arena continue to deny the need to find global answers to existing threats.

Overcoming such contradictions requires a coherent and comprehensive reform of the global governance system. However, this problem cannot be solved as long as the international community does not reach unity on a number of other important issues raised during the meeting. As long as every region in the world remain sources of conflict, and individual players continue to solve their own geopolitical objectives without considering the interests of other countries, the relevance of joint decisions of the BRICS countries will only increase.”
