The actions of Saudi Arabia to further isolate neighboring Arab rival of Qatar, literally turning it into an island, are the latest in a long and intense feud between the two countries.
Tiny but rich Qatar is a Peninsula that shares a border 60 km with Saudi Arabia in the North-East and out of the Arabian Peninsula into the Persian Gulf, about 160 km.
Saudi media showed this week that the Kingdom is progressing with ambitious plans to megapath 200-foot channel along the entire length of the land boundary, effectively creating a “Qatar island”, as some news sources are the Middle East as it is called.
Residents of Qatar, it seems, do not say anything about geographical the fate of their country, and Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, meanwhile, is planning to create the release of nuclear waste and military base in the channel, write the authors of the blog zerohedge.com.

Reportedly, the so-called project “Sea canal Salva” opened to bid among five international companies that spetsializiruyutsya on the digging of channels, the reception of applications will be completed next Monday, and the project will be given within 90 days. According to the Saudi newspaper Sabq, the project is estimated at 2.8 billion riyals ($750 million).
Qatar remained unbeaten during its unprecedented year diplomatic crisis with Saudi Arabia and other States of the cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), which exerted great pressure on the rich oil and gas monarchy, with the full economic and diplomatic embargo imposed on its neighbours. Officials of Saudi Arabia and the UAE have long accused Qatar of supporting terrorism, meddling in the Affairs of its neighbors in the Gulf, equating it with Iran and the crisis that led to the almost complete disintegration of the GCC.
Newsweek reported in early April that Riyadh is not satisfied with traditional insulation. The so-called “project sea channel, Salva” involves the establishment of a military base on one of the sites on the border, and the dumping of nuclear waste on the other. Waste will come from nuclear reactors, plans to build Saudi Arabia. Then the boundary will be clearly delineated by a wide channel. UAE will also create a plot for the release of nuclear waste on the border with Qatar.
But now it’s really happening and doesn’t look like a bluff. In addition to nuclear waste and military facilities Riyadh also provides for the creation of beach resorts in salve, ha’il, Khor al Adid and RAS Abu Kama, and also moorings for yachts and leisure.
According to the Gulf News in Dubai, the channel will be fully contained from the Saudi border, that is, Qatar will have no rights or access to waterways. Gulf News further (somewhat enthusiastically) notes that “in April, Saudi border guards have taken control of the pass, Salva, effectively cutting off the only land connection of Qatar with the outside world.”
It is reported that the project will be fully funded by private investors from the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Well, it will be interesting to know if this is implemented. If Yes, then creating, a 60-kilometer stretch to the physical clipping of the whole country will surely be the first in the history of diplomatic wars.
