Secret from the broad public leaders and leading journalists of almost all the major American news outlets for a long time were members of the influential Council on foreign relations (CFR).
Founded in 1921 as a private organization, “forcing America to fulfill its global responsibilities”, the CFR and its about 5 thousand elite members decades influenced the formation of U.S. foreign policy. As once explained a well-known member of the Council, the main goal was the creation of a world Empire, but with quite a friendly attitude.
With the use of the official membership lists in the following illustration, the first time published an extensive network of CFR and its two main international partner organizations: the Bilderberg group (covering mainly USA and Europe) and the Trilateral Commission (covering North America, Europe and East Asia), established leaders of the Council for the development of elite cooperation at the international level.
The structure of the American media
In his column, former editor of the Washington Post and Ombudsman Richard Harwood, endorsed the Council and its members, stating: “the Membership of these journalists in the Council is a recognition of their active, important role in public Affairs and their presence in the American ruling class. They don’t just analyze and interpretiruya US foreign policy, they form it.
They are part of the establishment, whether they like it or not, sharing most of its values and world-view”.
However, the leaders of the media represent only 5% of the total network CFR. As can be seen in the following figure, the key members of the private Council on foreign relations was:
● a number of US presidents and Vice presidents of both parties;
● almost all secretaries of state, defence Ministers and Finance;
● many high-ranking commanders of the Armed forces of the United States and NATO;
● almost all the advisers on national security, the head of the CIA, ambassadors to the United Nations, the chairmen of the fed, the presidents of the world Bank and Director of the National economic Council;
● some of the most influential members of Congress (especially in matters of foreign and security policy);
● many Supreme judges, media leaders and heads of the entertainment industry;
● many prominent scientists, particularly in key areas such as Economics, international relations, political science, history and journalism,
many executives on wall street, from think tanks, universities and NGOs;
key members of the 9/11 Commission and the Warren Commission.
Renowned economist and a supporter of John F. Kennedy Galbraith confirmed the influence of the Council: “To all of us who worked to elect Kennedy had a good relationship in government, we had the vote but foreign policy still depended on people from the Council on foreign relations”.
John J. McCloy, longtime Chairman of the Board and Advisor to 9 of US presidents has told about the period of your stay in Washington: “Whenever we needed someone, we were going over the list of members of the Council called in new York.”
The German newspaper Der Spiegel once described the CFR as “the most influential private institution in the USA and Western world” and “the Politburo of capitalism.” The logo of the Council and its slogan once again emphasize these ambitions.
Political commentator Richard R. Rover at the time said: “the leaders of the CFR make up a sort of Presidium of the part of the establishment that guides our destiny as a nation. Rarely meet any of the members, or at least one of his allies in the White house.”
Until recently, this perception was indeed justified. Thus, in 1993 the former head of CFR George H. W. Bush followed by a CFR member bill Clinton, followed by a clan member of the CFR, George Bush.
In 2008, the CFR member John McCain lost the presidential candidate of the CFR Barack Obama, who received the names of all of his Cabinet has a month before his election, a senior fellow of CFR (and banker Citigroup) Michael Froman. Later, Froman led the negotiations on the free trade Agreements, TTP and TTIP, before returning to CFR as the honored employee.
Apparently, before the election of 2016, the Council could not prevail. Anyway yet.
