Last Saturday, October 7, in Montreal, 20-year-old Israeli athlete Artem Dolgopyat from the Maccabi Tel Aviv club won a silver medal at the World Championships in artistic gymnastics in floor exercise.
The Israeli result is 14.533 points. The world champion was the Japanese Kenzo Shirai (15.633). The bronze medal was won by the American Yul Moldor (14.500).
Artyom’s success has become one of the most talked about news in the Israeli media. It is noted that this is the first «silver» gymnast from the Israeli national team at the World Championship. At the same time, the bronze medals of the Israeli Alex Shatilov at the 2009, 2011 and 2012 World Championships, his «gold» at the 2013 European Championships and other achievements are mentioned. Shatilov missed the World Championship in Montreal due to the birth of his first child.
Artem Dolgopyat was born on June 16, 1997 in Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine). Has been engaged in artistic gymnastics since 2003. Trained in Dnepropetrovsk and Slavutich. After repatriation, he lives in Rishon Le-Zion. He has been a member of the Israel national team since 2015.
In April 2015, he first took part in the European Championship, held in Montpellier (France). He took part in the European Championship held in Bern, Switzerland in May 2016. In April 2017, he took fourth place at the European Championship in Cluj-Napoca (Romania). In October 2017, he won a silver medal at the World Championships in Montreal (Canada).
