Lewis Hamilton jets off to Miami to celebrate world title

Lewis Hamilton didn’t waste any time celebrating his fourth Formula One world title, jetting off to Miami immediately after his historic triumph at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Hamilton surpassed Sir Jackie Stewart to become the first Briton to win more than three championships, and joined Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel as just the fifth to have won four or more after a chaotic race in Mexico on Sunday.

And intent on making it a night to remember, the Mercedes superstar boarded a private jet to America – and was joined by his friends and family.

In videos posted on his Instagram story, Hamilton enjoyed his latest F1 world title triumph with his closest friends and family.

He was joined by his mother Carmen, who was present at the Mexican Grand Prix to watch him make history.

Hamilton was in relaxed mood as he celebrated his victory en route to America with his godson Hiero on the plane.

It is believed Hiero is the son of Hamilton’s close friend Yuko Fredriksson, a make-up artist who was also part of the travelling party.

And, after arriving in the US, the 32-year-old driver danced the night away at glamorous nightclub Liv Miami.

In true Formula One style, Hamilton had bottle service – and the nightclub congratulated him by holding up electronic placards in a show of respect to the Brit.

Regarded as one of the top nightlife venues in the world, Liv paid tribute to the triumphant driver by reminding him of his four world title victories.

And Hamilton has already set his sights on winning a fifth world championship after being crowned Britain’s most successful motor racing driver ever.

The 32-year-old Englishman finished only ninth in Mexico – the lowest position of his championship-winning season – following a stunning opening-lap collision with Vettel, after which Hamilton asked if his rival had crashed into him on purpose.

Hamilton dropped to last but Vettel – who also had to stop for repairs – crossed the line in fourth to fall well short of the victory he needed to stop Hamilton from rewriting the record books.

Hamilton took the chequered flag with his helmet in his hands before holding a Union Jack aloft as he celebrated his remarkable achievement.

Later, he arrived to address the media with a glass of champagne. He had one sip of bubbly before proclaiming it as disgusting and reverting to an energy drink.

‘Four is a great number, but I want number five now,’ Hamilton said with a telling grin. ‘Throughout the race I was just thinking to myself, “don’t give up”.

‘I went back to when my Dad put me in the boxing ring when I was younger and this kid beat the crap out of me. My nose was bleeding and I didn’t want to go back in, and it felt very similar today.

‘I got the puncture, and I could have easily resorted to giving up, making mistakes, but, I remembered that moment and I was like “I’m not going to give up, I’m going to keep pushing, and give it everything, so that when I cross the line I can be proud of myself,” and I definitely am.’
