Mountains, passionate men, brandy, capers and pita bread… And it’s not the main thing in Armenia. Why you should definitely go in this country?
Local like to say that there are 11 million Armenians and only 3 million of them live in Armenia. Everything is friendly and helpful. If you don’t know the way, do you have her will show, and if necessary, and drive to your destination, and feed more besides. Especially good harissa, Alba with chicken, Suluguni, lavash, and vodka.
In General, in Yerevan, Soviet-style cute and cozy. Narrow streets crammed with houses, Khrushchev (only in some parts of the city there are skyscrapers). Rare cars moving in chaotic flow on narrow roads. Lots of trees and greenery, in the shade where you can always take refuge on a hot day. On the main square of the city – Revolution – fountains with drinking water (by the way, in the homes of crane is the same clean drinking water).
And then men still meet on the street. Can come to you and casually ask where you’re from, your name, and if you really like it – and your mother-in-law immediately to ask for. And they say that their skin is the color of quality brandy. By the way, this drink accompanies Armenians all my life. If the guy came to propose, and the bride’s father agree, then on the table be sure to put a bottle of brandy. The child was born – again to get the brandy. Problems with pressure and then the doctors prescribe brandy. So you are in Yerevan, I guess it is worth to take as a tasty souvenir.
And all because the vineyards are not worse than French or Spanish! And what is incredible here lake Sevan! A real local gem. Here every day (in any weather) the tourists come to enjoy the stunning views and listen to “laughing” gulls. Here is always windy, so if you decide to go for beautiful pictures of the lake, don’t forget to grab a sweatshirt or jacket. The lake water is always freezing, but the locals claim that in the summer, some still manage to swim. On the shore, on the Peninsula of Sevan, is a monument of ancient Armenian architecture – Sevanavank monastery was built by hermits in the late VIII century. Admission is free. Here you can shelter from the biting wind, and at the same time “touching” the history of Armenia.
To the South of lake Sevan lies the beautiful Ararat valley. On the North it is “guarding” the mount Aragats, in the South – Ararat (in whose honor and was named one of the most famous local brandy). By the way, many believe that mount Ararat is located in Armenia. In fact it is not. It is located in Turkey. But you can see it from Yerevan, if you climb to the top of the Cascade (that is one of the attractions in the city centre) is a multi-tiered building-the monument, which consists of 582 steps. However, bear in mind that the Ararat show you need to be beautiful Sunny weather – no fog and low clouds should not be.
And on mount Aragats (it is 30 km from the border with Turkey) occur unusual things. If you drown in the car engine, the car will not stop – will move into the hill itself! Scientists still can’t find an explanation for the phenomenon. By the way, is impressive here and the river – it flows bottom-up at an inclination of about 20 degrees, against all the laws of nature! Don’t believe me – come and surprise!
If you want other entertainment, while in Armenia they are there! For example, the casino Shangri La. To reach it, will have to spend hours on the road from Yerevan city centre. By the way, when you first visit the entrance is free (for the second and following need to pay about 100 dollars). There is a gaming club, restaurant and bar. If you are lucky, you can win a car, no – play state and to replenish the Treasury of the country.
Another interesting detail: without having to travel outside of Yerevan, you can make a real journey to different cities and countries. And all because there is the area of Russia, Bangladesh district, street Italy, Teryan and Tumanyan. Most pointers are duplicated in Russian and English languages – in a word, it will welcome any foreigner who live here are really really friendly people!
