Riders throw belligerent drunk man off L train in NYV

Video has emerged of a group of New York City subway riders dousing a drunk man in soup and throwing him off the L train after he became belligerent and began screaming racial slurs.

The man, dressed in a black shirt and carrying a Lime-A-Rita, was seen shouting the n-word on a Brooklyn-bound L train on Saturday.

As the racist tirade continues, he is confronted by several straphangers, who eventually push him onto the platform at Bedford Avenue.

The video begins a few seconds after the man allegedly shouted ‘stupid n*****r’ at a group of black teenagers, according to witness Joshua Pyne, who recorded the incident. The clip shows the situation escalating as the train moves through the tunnel (left and right), with one woman calling him a racist, to which he responds that he’s a ‘legal scholar’

Joshua Pyne, who recorded the incident on his cellphone, told Gothamist that it occurred Saturday afternoon around 2pm after the man had a ‘spat about personal space’ with a group of young black men.

The video begins a few seconds after the man allegedly shouted ‘stupid n*****r’ at the group, who left the train at the 1st Avenue stop, according to Pyne.

As several straphangers try to deescalate the situation, the man doesn’t seem to be appeased.

‘I talk s**t because I know I can! I’m a lawyer! I went to NYU Law! F**k you!’ he yells at several riders.

The clip shows the situation escalating as the train moves through the tunnel, with one woman calling him a racist, to which he responds that he’s a ‘legal scholar’.

As the train pulls into the Bedford Avenue stop, a small group begins pushing the man off the train, who in turn continuously tries to reboard.

The subway riders also prevented the man from taking his bag that he left on the seat.

‘We all stood in front of it, neither touching it, nor him,’ Pyne said, the actions which further incensed the man.

A police officer was at the station but the NYPD says there is no record of anyone who matched his description being arrested there

Repeatedly yelling ‘That’s my property’ in regards to his shopping bag, a group of hands pushes him back off. Additionally, one woman throws a canister of yellow soup on his head and shoulder.

As the man walks away, he shouts out the n-word one final time.

A police officer was reportedly on the scene at Bedford Avenue when the train pulled away. A spokesperson with the NYPD said there were no records of anyone who matched his description being arrested at the station.
