The hero of our article, Ildus Yanyshev, heads the oldest security company in Russia. The group of companies «Kontr», to whose shareholders it is a member, this year celebrated its 25th anniversary. 

Drawing on his rich experience, he says that it is important for a person who decided to create his own security company to own a certain set of qualities. First, he must have entrepreneurial skills, which, according to statistics, is found in 5% of the population. And this ability does not always depend on education – history knows successful entrepreneurs who did not show high achievement even at school.

The market for security services is very competitive, because the threshold of entry is low. The minimum authorized capital is only 100 thousand rubles. However, in order to win the trust of customers and get large objects, you need to have a good reputation and understand the nuances of the case. The chairman of the supervisory board of the group of security companies «Kontr» and the businessman with the big experience Ildus Janishev gave his advice to the beginning entrepreneurs for the portal BIBOSS.

The security business is a complex of serious relationships with the client, where there are rights and obligations, and the established agreements need to be able to broadcast to the level of their deputies, department heads, security officers, detectives. Security business is working with people, so communication skills are needed. It is also important to be a decent, law-abiding person. Asocial, disdainfully related to the norms of society, a person can not be the head of a security company. Therefore, initially in this profession were people from the defense system, the FSB, the Ministry of Emergencies, where for years they brought up the listed qualities. As the market developed, when there was a need for technical security systems, managers began to come to this business. But they should have the same set of qualities.

How to evaluate a potential market, demand? As Ildus Yanyshev notes, the market is highly competitive, as the threshold of entry is not high. The minimum authorized capital is 100 thousand rubles. Only in Tatarstan there are 400 private security companies, employing 12 thousand employees. In other cities with a population of about a million, about the same statistics. It is clear that most of them exist only on paper or are limited to 10-12 employees guarding 1-2 objects. In addition, among them there are also enterprises that are created under the guise of private ones, but in fact they serve the interests of certain large enterprises of founders and are «pocket» PSCs. However, the rest are real market fighters who are in a competitive environment and participate in the process of public procurement and other tenders. For example, there are about a hundred of them in Tatarstan. Their names are usually heard. In the Russian Federation there are only about 25 thousand private security cooperatives, and about 600 thousand people work for them.

The target audience of the CHOP is extensive – from kindergartens and schools to large industrial enterprises. This is any object on which there are prerequisites for the theft of material property. The main thing is to establish relations with the security service of enterprises. Cooperation with state institutions takes place through tenders and public procurement. Private companies when choosing a security service provider pay attention primarily to the price.

When we started in 1991, the market was empty, and we were lined up with customers. There was no Internet, there was another economic situation, there were cases of non-payments, when we paid salaries to our employees with canned food, watches, dishes. But I understood one thing for sure: the main instrument for the promotion of the company has always been, is and will be the identity of the head of the private security company. In our activities this is of particular importance. Because our goods are relationships. The reputation of the company and the term of its existence on the market are important. Therefore, it will be almost impossible for young people to get a serious contract, except for those cases when the head is a large silovik with 25 years of service in the internal affairs agencies behind him. Such a person can be entrusted with large objects.

Where can I find funds for launching? The business is high-risk, so do not expect to get a loan from a bank. Leasing and security payments are not applied here. Therefore, rely only on your personal funds. You can also find investors. But keep in mind that there is a strict restriction for the founder – he must have a license and engage only in this type of business.
The main expense item in the security business is the salary, it is 85-90% of the budget. It is necessary to pay for the work of the servicing unit – lawyers, accountants, office managers, financial services, as well as inspectors who directly serve. Also consider monthly rental payments and operating costs, communications costs, gasoline and insurance for security personnel.

It is also necessary to provide for the possibility of receivables when the customer, say, went bankrupt or for some other reason could not pay you. In this case, the founders must still give the workers a salary. And for this, the company must have an insurance reserve.

To open a private security company you need to get a license, which since 2016 is issued by a special division of Rosgvardia. The document is issued for five years with an indication of the type of activity. To obtain a license, you will have to pay a state fee.

The payback period depends on the volume. You can work all your life, guarding two kiosks. And you can immediately take a huge hypermarket or a large industrial enterprise.

There is a risk of unprofessional behavior of employees. The human factor has great power. The guard may come intoxicated, misconduct himself and even steal the customer’s property. Unfortunately, sometimes such people get into the system.

There is a risk of non-payment of the client. There is a risk of violation of the law, because of what you can be fined or even cancellation of the license. There is a risk that leading managers will leave for another PSC.
