There’s a mystery at the center of the story (well, a few), and it’s different from a lot of Marvel movies. It’s a little more like Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity-someone with special abilities finds themselves with total amnesia and spends a good part of the movie trying to figure out who they are and why they can do all this awesome stuff.
Captain Marvel looks more intriguing with every trailer or special video release, and not just because Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury still has both eyes or because Brie Larson makes glowing with actual inner fire look so good.
While this new video has footage seen in previous trailers, the newer scenes feature typical Marvel wit, especially when the Captain (real name Carol Danvers) feels compelled to demonstrate to Fury that she’s not an invading alien by blowing a hole through a bar wall with a photon blast.
There’s more Jude Law in the spot as well. He’s clearly training Danvers/Marvel in hand-to-hand combat and trying to teach her control and discipline. Because, as she says in a voiceover, «I have this power, but I don’t know where it came from.»
The movie’s synopsis simply says «Captain Marvel gets caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.»
It seems pretty obvious by now that it’s not that simple.
We’ll know what’s really going on when Captain Marvel is released on March 8.
