Who ya gonna call?
Dan Aykroyd spoiled the secret in November 2018: Yes, a new Ghostbusters is on the way. Still, it was a surprise when an intriguing teaser for the movie dropped Wednesday.
We have to admit that despite the teaser’s length, it doesn’t do much more than, well, tease. In the end, though, we get the payoff by learning the crew’s classic ‘busting vehicle is revving up and getting ready to go.

Aykroyd let the news slip in an interview he gave Dan Rather, saying «I think we have a story that’s going to work and it’s being written right now by really good filmmakers. I can’t say their names.»
Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan directed 1984’s Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel, is one of those writers. He’s set to direct and his dad is one of the producers.
Based on their Twitter responses, it looks like Aykroyd and co-star Ernie Hudson are definitely on board.
All we know about it otherwise is that it’s not just the original story in a 21st century setting. Jason Reitman told EW that his movie will be «the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.»
It also has nothing to do with the unsuccessful 2016 all-woman Ghostbusters reboot. Reitman said «this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.» In other words, the reboot and the upcoming movie will exist in different fictional universes.
Ghostbusters 3 is slated for release sometime in 2020. Get your old proton pack projector out of the closet and start gearing up for supernatural battle today.
