In the 100th anniversary issue of Gifts and Decorative Accessories magazine, the research department of GDA parent company Progressive Business Media conducted a survey, asking retailers about the future of the industry. It was almost unanimous that retailers foresee e-commerce affecting their business in the next 10 years. In reality, it is more than likely affecting their business now. One retailer responded, “I believe we need to embrace e-commerce over the next 10 years, as I believe that it will become more important, particularly as teens who are very tech savvy grow into adults.” Another retailer said, “As more consumers move to e-commerce purchases, the industry will need to evolve as well. We are currently seeing more and more of our brick and mortar customers adding e-commerce to their websites as well to remain competitive and aid in the ease of selling to customers.”
