PUBG remains one of the biggest games in the world, and is largely credited with kicking off the current trend of battle royale games that has since been followed by Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and soon Battlefield V. PES 2019, meanwhile, might not have the same popularity as FIFA 19, but Konami’s Pro Evo series has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim in recent years, and this season is no different.
Xbox One players are in for a great weekend, as two big games are free to play for the next few days. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and PES 2019 are available for free through November 11, though they will revert to their standard price after that time.
In GameSpot’s PES 2019 review, critic Richard Wakeling awarded the game a 9/10, writing: «The lack of licences for top-tier leagues remains a disheartening sticking point, but PES continues to make brilliant strides on the pitch, building on what was already an incredibly satisfying game of football to produce one of the greatest playing football games of all time. It might be lacking off the pitch, but put it on the field against the competition and a famous giant killing wouldn’t be all that surprising.»
Our PUBG review, meanwhile, awarded the shooter an 8/10. «PUBG’s technical shortcomings can undermine its broader achievements on rare occasions, but they don’t override your desire to continue playing,» wrote critic Michael Higham. «Each phase of a match presents a different type of tension that is equal parts thrilling and terrifying, driven by the insatiable desire to be the last person (or squad) standing. Whether you play solo or in a group, successfully executing adaptive tactics to win intense, high-stakes firefights makes for an incredibly rewarding experience. Every player has unique stories of their most memorable matches, and even after hundreds of hours, PUBG continues to inspire rousing tales of victory and defeat.»
You can grab the titles from the Xbox Store, though there are more free games currently available on the system: November’s free Xbox One Games with Gold are available now. They include Battlefield 1 and, later in the month, the original Assassin’s Creed.
