This week’s Xbox One game sale on Xbox Live was suspiciously weak. A sale like that right before Christmas might have clued you in that Microsoft was working on a bigger sale that would be unveiled later. If so, you were right. The Xbox Countdown Sale, which drops prices on a heap of blockbuster games, is now live. And if you’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you’ll get a bonus discount on many of the items. The sale runs through January 3, so read on to see if any of the deals spark your interest.
If you’re looking to pick up some recent releases you missed, you can grab Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for $39 / £36, or Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and the WWII-set shooter Battlefield V for $30 / £30 each. Fallout 76 is down to $40 / £40, while Hitman 2 is on sale for $30 / £39. Sea of Thieves and Valkyria Chronicles 4 are also discounted to $30 / £30 apiece. And if you’ve been waiting to grab arguably the year’s best racing game, you can get Forza Horizon 4 for $39 / £33.
Those up for a challenge can pick up Dark Souls Remastered on sale for $30 / £26; the rest of the series has gotten deep discounts as well. Fighting game fans can nab SoulCalibur VI for $42 / £35 or prepare for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 by picking up Mortal Kombat XL for $5 / £16.
Some of the best recent indie games have also gotten the discount treatment, like Dead Cells for $20 / £13 and Overcooked 2 for $19 / £15. The narrative-driven game What Remains of Edith Finch and the puzzle-platformer Inside are both down to $10 / £8 each.
That only scratches the surface of the games on sale between now and January 3. You can check here for the full list of games. There’s a good chance you’ll find something worth trying.
