At nuclear power plants are preparing for large-scale exercises

Today in the information center “of the Balakovo nuclear power plant” at the meeting with media representatives of the press service of the regional administration and large enterprises in the region presented a report on the environmental safety of the nuclear power station over the past year and discussed the preparations for the comprehensive emergency doctrine, which will be held in September.

Were invited representatives of all interested ministries and departments of the Saratov region, environmental NGOs, CSMC of MD EMERCOM, the Single duty dispatching management Goichs and the Public chamber of the Balakovo district, Council of veterans of “Bales”.
Traditionally the meeting was attended by the specialists of the Balakovo branch “Rosenergoatom” “Atomenergoremont”, “Atomtechenergo” and “Balakovo NPP-Avto”, which also follow the policy of informational openness.

Head of information and public relations of station Dmitry Shevchenko told about the enormity of the upcoming exercises with simulation of the emergency situation on the units and evacuation of personnel. In them will take part not only the forces and means of the enterprise, but also local authorities, a group of emergency assistance to nuclear power plants (OPAS), the forces and means of the emergencies Ministry, defence Ministry, and Regardie, a large group of international observers. Will involve several hundreds of units, including the military machinery.

Presentation environmental report “Bales” is held annually, it includes the results of the company’s environmental activities. Publication of environmental report in the city located near nuclear power plants, designed to raise public awareness, environmental organizations, and scientific and social institutions, LSG and state authorities about the real environmental situation in the region and measures to improve environmental safety.

Novovoronezh NPP was visited by international experts

From 7 to 9 August at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant was held parallel to the mission support and pre-visit pre-startup inspection of the world Association of operators (WANO) nuclear power plant. In Novovoronezh came five experts WANO from Russia, Armenia and Bulgaria with the aim to help in finding the best solutions to production problems, improve the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants.

In 2016 our colleagues have arrived at Novovoronezh NPP with a partner checking in which identified the area for improvement in the direction of “the Organizational structure of the enterprises of nuclear energy and its characteristic features”. The management of Novovoronezh NPP approached us with a request for our mission support, which is particularly relevant in the run-up to re-peer review – it will be held in November – said the Advisor of the Moscow center WANO Galim Musin.

Experts WANO worked with managers and specialists of the Novovoronezh NPP in the round-table format. According to Halima Mussina, recommendations for the nuclear station are developed based on the results of collective discussion.

At the final meeting with the management of Novovoronezh NPP, the experts of WANO presented the preliminary report of the mission support and developed recommendations and suggestions for improving the interaction between the units of Novovoronezh NPP.

Pre-visit pre-startup inspection (PPPP) WANO was held at power plant №2 of the NPP–2 (No. 7 Novovoronezh NPP). The purpose of the visit was to determine the optimal timing of upcoming inspections, familiarization with the methodology managers from Novovoronezh NPP. During the preliminary visit the purpose and methodology of monitoring the work of operational staff on a full-scale simulator.

International experts communicated with the management of Novovoronezh NPP, has worked with the start-up object documentation, interviews with managers checking nuclear power plants. The representatives of WANO visited the training point and made a tour of the construction site of power unit.

Charter WANO pre-PP is performed on each new unit in the world. In 2013, the international experts had about 40 peer reviews and repeat visits, the main purpose of which is to assess the readiness of the unit and its personnel to safe operation.

– When pre-startup verification, we will need to verify that operational personnel of the nuclear power station went from thinking in terms of setup and installation in a world in which nuclear safety is the main priority. And the purpose of the preliminary visit – the timing and organization of the upcoming test, said the Advisor of the Moscow center of WANO, coordinator of PPPP Sergey Vybornov.

Power units No. 1 and No. 2 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 (No. 6 and No. 7 Novovoronezh NPP) with WWER-1200 reactors belong to the fourth stage. Unit №1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 held a pre-inspection WANO in 2015.

To date, VAO consist of all organizations the world operating nuclear power plants, all in their structure there are about 450 units.
