Artem Dolgopyat’s sports career. World Championship silver medalist answered questions

20-year-old Israeli gymnast Artyom Dolgopyat, who won the silver medal at the World Championships in artistic gymnastics in floor exercise in Montreal, answered questions from NEWSru.co.il after returning to Israel from Canada.

Artyom’s success has become one of the most talked about news in the Israeli media this week. This is the first «silver» of the Israeli national team gymnast at the World Championship.

Artem Dolgopyat was born on June 16, 1997 in Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine). Has been engaged in artistic gymnastics since 2003. Trained in Dnepropetrovsk and Slavutich. After repatriation, he lives in Rishon LeZion. In April 2015, he first took part in the European Championship, held in Montpellier (France). He took part in the European Championship held in Bern, Switzerland in May 2016. In April 2017, he took fourth place at the European Championship in Cluj-Napoca (Romania). In October 2017, he won a silver medal at the World Championships in Montreal (Canada).

In a conversation with our correspondent, Artem said that Andrey Gribanov was his first coach in Dnepropetrovsk. Before repatriating to Israel in 2009, he twice became the champion of Ukraine in his age category.

More than eight years ago, Artyom’s parents decided to repatriate. The family flew to Israel on July 7, 2009. At the same time, as Artem emphasizes, his sports career was not interrupted. “The day after my arrival, I went to the gym,” he says. Since then, Tarsier has played for the Israeli national team.

In Israel, Artyom Dolgopyat is coached by Sergei Vaysburg (main coach), as well as Oleg Yarovinsky, Vladimir Shaevich and Alex Promyshlyansky. Speaking about those who helped and help him in sports achievements, Artem also mentioned the acrobatics coach Valentin Potapenko, who now lives in France. He expressed special gratitude to the team of physiotherapists and massage therapists led by Adam Badir.

Currently, Artyom combines training and performances in competitions with service in the IDF. He was drafted into the army in 2016.

Answering our questions, Artem Dolgopyat said that, in his opinion, the State of Israel provides sufficient support to international athletes.
