Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman welcomed the US decision to withdraw from UNESCO.
He said that Israel’s most important ally has taken an important and correct step against an anti-Semitic and politically engaged organization in which lies are the norm.
In turn, the chairman of the parliamentary faction of the party «Our Home is Israel» Robert Ilatov noted that the US withdrawal from UNESCO should be perceived as a direct and unambiguous signal to all those organizations that call themselves «human rights» and «objective», but in fact hold a pronounced biased anti-Israel position and trying to rewrite history.
The deputy head of the subcommittee on foreign policy and explanatory work of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Commission pointed out that by adopting absurd resolutions over and over again, UNESCO lost the mandate that was given to it by the UN as an organization responsible for science, culture and education.
“The existence of UNESCO in its current form is incompetent and is no longer justified. The noble decision of the United States is yet another indisputable evidence of the unbreakable bond and strategic partnership between Israel and the United States, ”said Robert Ilatov.
