Fiat Chrysler recalls nearly 8,000 vehicles over wireless hacking

Fiat Chryslers Automobiles has announced the recall of its 7810 Jeep Renegade SUVs due to the risk of being hacked over a wireless connection. The corresponding message is posted on the official website of the company.

This is a vulnerability that could allow an attacker using a wireless connection to a vehicle to gain control over some of its systems.

The possibility of remote hacking became known back in the middle of summer. Then the company was forced to recall almost one and a half million vehicles for urgent software updates. However, later, the possibility of hacking was also discovered in Jeep Renegade SUVs equipped with a 6.5-inch touchscreen.

Fiat Chryslers Automobiles notes that more than half of the recalled vehicles are still at dealerships .

Thus, the automaker expects to eliminate the existing software vulnerability before selling them. At the same time, the auto concern emphasizes that so far no information has been received about any harm that would have been caused due to the existence of a vulnerability.
