In the 17th minute, former Nuremberg and Los Angeles Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez (Pachuca) sent the ball into his own net 1-0. In the 37th minute, the hosts’ advantage was doubled by Alvin Jones 2: 0.
At the 47th minute, the gap was reduced by 19-year-old Christian Pulisic (Borussia, Dortmund). The Americans failed to recoup. A draw would lead them directly to the final of the World Cup.
Honduras – Mexico 3: 2
The Mexicans were in the lead twice, with goals scored by Oribe Peralta (America) and former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad).
