Aviva Premiership weekend guide

 Aviva Premiership rugby returns after two weeks of European action across the continent. 

There are five matches in England’s top flight this weekend, with Wasps trip to Northampton catching the eye, as well as old faces reuniting at Kingston Park when Newcastle take on Leicester.

Here, Sportsmail give you the ultimate guide to this weekend’s action, with all the team news and predictions across the league.

SATURDAY

Harlequins v Worcester (Twickenham Stoop, 3pm)

John Kingston has made six changes to his Quins XV, with a first start for Elia Elia at hooker and flanker James Chisholm’s first appearance since March.

Australian fly-half Jono Lance makes his first league start for the winless Warriors, in a side led by the returning Donncha O’Callaghan.

Prediction: Home win.

Northampton v Wasps (Franklin’s Gardens, 3pm)

Ahsee Tuala, Kieran Brookes and Jamie Gibson are recalled by the Saints, while Courtney Lawes shifts back into the second row.

Nathan Hughes is suspended, so Guy Thompson takes his place in the Wasps at No 8, while Matt Symons is fit to claim a bench berth.

Saracens v London Irish (Allianz Park, 3pm)

Maro Itoje is rested from the Saracens’ line-up after a busy start to the new campaign. Calum Clark switches to the blindside flank, with Schalk Burger starting at openside.

Joe Cokanasiga and Tom Fowlie are handed back-line starts after European heroics for Irish.

SUNDAY 

Bath v Gloucester (Recreation Ground, 3pm)

Matt Banahan returns on the wing for Bath, while Nathan Catt makes his first Premiership start of the season at loosehead prop.

Ed Slater has recovered from a finger injury to start at lock for Gloucester, who have Jeremy Thrush, Andy Symons and Ollie Thorley on the bench.

Prediction: Home win.

Newcastle v Leicester (Kingston Park, 3pm)

Toby Flood makes his first league start in his second stint at Newcastle, while Vereniki Goneva is also back for the first Tyneside sell-out since 2008.

Mathew Tait starts in midfield for the Tigers against his former club, and Leicester welcome back Brendon O’Connor at openside.
