Maneskin lead singer David Damiano voluntarily passed a drug test. The singer made such a decision after the scandal that erupted during Eurovision-2021. The audience noticed that the musician bent suspiciously over the table while summing up the results of the competition: it seemed to many that at that moment he had used prohibited substances.
Immediately after the announcement of the results of the competition, a press conference was held, during which one of the journalists asked the winner a question about the incident. However, the musician hastened to refute the rumors: according to his version, one of the band members broke a glass, and he tried to blow the glass fragments off the table.
The European Broadcasting Union confirmed that «the broken glass was found after an on-site inspection.» Nevertheless, the soloist decided to take a drug test to dispel any doubts. The results of this test were released on Monday 24 May.
— Due to suspicions of drug use in the green room (the place where the performers are awaiting the announcement of the results) during the Eurovision final on 22 May, the European Broadcasting Union, at the request of the Italian delegation, carried out a thorough fact-checking, including checking all available videos. Earlier today, the lead singer of the band Maneskin also voluntarily underwent a drug test, which came back negative. There was no drug use in the green room, we consider this issue closed, — said in the European Broadcasting Union.
“We are alarmed that the speculation leading to the fake news has darkened the spirit and outcome of the event, and also unfairly affected the group. We would like to once again congratulate Maneskin and wish them great success, ”added the European Broadcasting Union.
The Eurovision television contest was held in Rotterdam. The winner was the Maneskin group with the song Zitti e Buoni, the crystal microphone figurine went to Italy. And the participant from Russia Manizha took ninth place.
