The aircraft, following a series of stunts, then appeared to dive straight into the water in front of the group, causing a splash.
The members of the group, who were on board a boat, screamed in disbelief as the Cessna 206 disappears from view.
At least two people were killed in a plane crash off the coast of Cancun, Mexico, during a gender reveal stunt that went wrong.
The incident was captured on video by a couple who were watching the flyover on Tuesday afternoon. They were with friends and family.
Video footage obtained by the New York Post shows the plane flying over the Nichupte Lagoon off the coast of Cancun, as it careened over the guests of the gender reveal party.
“It’s a girl!” the party members screamed as a banner was unfurled from the plane to reveal the gender of the unborn child.
Another member of the party reportedly says: “It’s all good as long as it doesn’t end up crashing into us!”
Two people on board the plane were killed in the crash, according to La Prensa Latina. It was not clear if they were the pilots of the aircraft.
Francisco Fernández Millán, president of the Nautical Association of the state of Quintana Roo, told the outlet that one of the victims died during the rescue operation.
Another victim was rescued alive but died while receiving first aid from paramedics, who were called to the scene.
La Prestina Latina reported that as many as four people were on the plane, which was rented from a local aviation company for the gender reveal.
It follows other gender reveals going wrong, including the death of an expectant father after an explosive prop detonated in his face.
An investigation into Tuesday’s incident is reportedly ongoing.
