Politician accidentally records himself naked and changing clothes on parliamentary Zoom

A Canadian politician exposed himself to scrutiny after he accidentally appeared fully naked in front of his camera during a parliamentary video conference on Wednesday.

At the centre of the “unfortunate mistake” is William Amos, a liberal representative from Quebec, who said in a statement that he had gone for a jog and forgot that his camera was turned on.

Apologising for the incident, Mr Amos said: “I made a really unfortunate mistake today & obviously I’m embarrassed by it. My camera was accidentally left on as I changed into work clothes after going for a jog. I sincerely apologize to all my colleagues in the House. “

He added that “it was an honest mistake” as he reassured to not repeat it.

Party’s whip Claude DeBellefeuille raised the incident with the Speaker of the House of Commons following the question period as she suggested a reminder for the decorum.

“I think that today we have set a new record. We have seen a member during question period improperly dressed. That is, unclothed,” Ms DeBellefeuille said in French. “So perhaps remind the members, especially the male members, that suits and ties are appropriate but also a shirt, underpants and pants.”

“We have seen that the member was in very good shape, but I think this member should be reminded of what is appropriate and to control his camera,” she added.

Though his Zoom fail was not publicly broadcasted, the screengrab of his digital faux pas was leaked to the media drawing cheeky responses from social media users.

“When we expected transparency from your government, this wasn’t what we meant,” wrote a user.

“Next time you embarrass yourself on video know Will walked around naked in front of the House of Commons,” wrote another user adding that it was an honest mistake and he should not be asked to resign over it.

There were others who raised privacy concerns after his image was circulated online without his consent. “I laughed at first but then I realized what a horrible breach of privacy this was. Find out who leaked it and take whatever legal action that is necessary,” wrote another user.
