The purpose of testing VSS Unity is called the development of ship flight control systems in supersonic mode. During recent tests, passenger seats and related equipment have already been integrated into the spaceplane.

The first tests of VSS Unity in supersonic mode took place on April 5 this year. Then the ship managed to reach a speed of 1.87 Mach numbers. The previous 11 flights of the spaceplane, conducted since February 2016, took place without turning on the rocket engine.
