Searches again in Crimea: security forces detained father and daughter

According to public defender Mustafa Seydaliev, the security forces did not introduce themselves and did not leave any protocols.

The defender added that according to relatives, the reason for the detention of Seytumerov’s daughter, allegedly, was the girl’s correspondence by telephone with her husband, who is in mainland Ukraine.

EU extended sanctions against Russia due to annexation of Crimea

The EU extended economic sanctions against Russia for a year due to Kremlin policies in eastern Ukraine. Restrictive measures will be valid until June 23, 2019. “Four years after the illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation, the EU confirmed that it does not recognize this violation of international law and continues to condemn it,” the statement said.

European Union economic sanctions against Moscow were adopted in the summer of 2014 in connection with its actions that destabilize the situation in eastern Ukraine. Restrictive measures prohibit the export and import of a number of goods, investments in the economy of the peninsula, and the provision of tourism services by European companies in Crimea. The European Union regularly reviews the issue of extension of sanctions. Brussels emphasizes that they can be canceled if Russia fulfills the Minsk agreements.

The head of the occupied Crimea compared the European Union with a calf

The head of the annexed Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, compared the European Union, which extended sanctions against the peninsula and Sevastopol, with a calf.

The EU’s decision to extend sanctions does not affect the socio-economic development of Crimea, Aksyonov said. According to him, Crimeans “recall the existence of sanctions only after media reports.”

“On this occasion, an old Russian proverb was recalled: a bear calf went to scare,” the head of the occupation administration said.

He also called the restrictions on the part of the European Union “a sign of hypocrisy” of European leaders, and the policy of sanctions – “immoral and offensive to the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol.”
