Hungary does not show a desire to solve the language issue

Hungary does not show a desire to resolve the issue regarding the Ukrainian law on education and to unblock the meetings of the Ukrainian delegation at the highest level in NATO.

This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian mission to NATO Vadim Priestayko.

“The Hungarian side does not show a desire to resolve the issue. She realizes that the NATO summit is a convenient occasion to impose our agenda on us and plans to use it to the full, ”Pristayko said.

According to him, the position of Hungary is clearly demonstrated by a recent letter sent by the Hungarian Ambassador to NATO to his Alliance colleagues.

“In fact, just two days after the meeting of the Ministers of Education and Foreign Affairs of our countries in Transcarpathia on June 23, which, in our opinion, was effective and efficient, the Hungarian side said that Ukraine did not offer any solutions to the well-known language problem.

And therefore, the blocking of meetings of the Ukraine-NATO Commission at a high political level by Budapest continues. Only two days were enough for the Hungarian side to declare the lack of progress, ”the ambassador emphasized.

Pristayko added that the letter was sent despite the fact that after the negotiations in Transcarpathia the next agreed steps were announced, including holding a meeting of the Hungarian community with the Ministry of Education in July, completion of the draft law on secondary education in the autumn, which is designed to address specific issues, disturbing linguistic minorities.

Earlier it became known that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the NATO summit in Brussels next week will block any decision following a meeting with Ukraine and Georgia.

Catalonia Announces “Breaking Relations” with Spanish Monarchy

The authorities of Catalonia will not invite representatives of the Royal House of Spain to their events and will not themselves attend events organized by the Spanish monarchy. This was stated by the head of the Cabinet of the Autonomous Community, Kim Torra.

“Neither I, nor any member of the government will take part in the events held by the monarchy, and we will not invite monarchs to any event,” Torra said in an official television appeal.

He said that he will attend the opening of the Mediterranean Games on Friday in Tarragona, and the head of state will also attend this ceremony.

“I will. Games are held in Tarragona, in Catalonia. They were organized, paid primarily in our country (Torra refers to Catalonia as an autonomous community of Spain. – Ed.). We will, because the government will not throw us out of our house. No more. The presence of the monarch will not affect our decision, ”said the head of the generals.

This week, Torra, as well as his predecessors as head of the Catalan government, Carles Puigdemon and Arthur Mas wrote a letter to the king criticizing his approach to solving the Catalan problem.

Torra asked the head of state for a personal meeting during the opening of the Mediterranean Games on Friday. The royal house forwarded the message to the chairman of the Spanish government, citing article 64 of the constitution, according to which “the decisions of the king are sealed with the signature of the chairman of the government and, if necessary, the respective ministers.”

The government decided that the meeting was not practical, but announced that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was ready to meet with Torra, and even set a date for negotiations in Madrid on July 9th.
