Two British teenagers killed and one critically injured after rope snaps while parasailing in Greece

The trio, including two brothers, aged 15 and 13, and their 15-year-old female cousin, were being towed when a rope holding their parasailing parachute snapped, the Greek coastguard told the PA news agency.

Two British teenagers have died and another is injured after a parasailing accident while on holiday in Greece.

A 13-year-old boy and the 15-year-old girl were killed while the surviving boy is in a «serious condition with multiple injuries» in a hospital in Rhodes.

The trio are said to have been found on rocks near Lindos on the island of Rhodes.

The accident happened on Wednesday at about noon local time and the two people connected with the speedboat have been arrested.

The Greek coastguard spokesman told PA: «They were following a speedboat. The rope was cut.

«The boy and the girl were killed and another was heavily injured and brought to hospital.

«It is under investigation about how the rope was cut.»

The bodies of the teenagers were found by members of the coastguard and the fire department who had been contacted by the person who controlled the boat, according to the spokesman.

He said: «The guy who controlled the speedboat and another person were arrested.»

High winds had caused the group to drift towards the rocks, Greek media reported.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it had been liaising with the family of the teenagers.

A FCDO spokesman said: «We are supporting the family of two British people following their death in Rhodes, and are in contact with the Greek authorities.»

Kenyan stowaway survives 19,000ft flight clinging to landing gear in sub-zero temperatures

A teenage Kenyan stowaway has survived a flight from London to Maastricht after clinging to the plane’s landing gear in sub-zero temperatures at 19,000ft.

The 16-year-old boy was found after the cargo jet landed in the Netherlands city on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Maastricht Aachen Airport said: “He had tremendous luck to get through this.”

The spokesperson told the NetherlandsNewsLive website that temperatures within the landing gear bay of the Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 would have fallen to -30C, adding: “Stowaways on airplanes are rare, and most people sadly don’t survive the journey.”

The teenager is now in hospital suffering hypothermia but is said to be otherwise in a relatively healthy condition.

Dutch police say there are currently trying to trace the boy’s exact route and will be investigating potential human trafficking links in connection with the incident.

It is not the first time a stowaway has survived a seemingly impossible plane journey.

Themba Cabeka, from South Africa, spent six months in hospital after clinging to the undercarriage of a jumbo jet during an 11 hour, 6,000 mile flight between Johannesburg and London in 2015.

Experts say that, during the journey, he would have been starved of oxygen and subject to temperatures of-60C.

He was discovered unconscious in the grounds of Heathrow Airport.
