BETHESDA, MD – The Empire State Official Store by Dufry Company, World Duty Free, opened the doors to its refurbished space on May 11, 2016.
The store, which first opened in 1990, is located on the 80 th floor of the landmark building and features 4,200 sq. ft. of shopping space. In keeping with the building’s style, the re-designed store has kept the iconic Art Deco features, but has been modernized the space to improve the accessibility of merchandise.
Upon entering the space, visitors are greeted by a showcase window bearing the building logo and intricate etchings of original design features that celebrated the Machine Age that can also be found on the ceiling in the lobby. To enhance the shopping experience, digital screens have been incorporated in the layout that showcase exclusive artwork, Empire State Building trivia and Empire State Building tower light shows.
The products offered in the shop include hand-painted stemware by Lolita; artisan chocolates, including a 3-lb. solid chocolate replica of the Empire State Building and a 14-lb., 18” solid chocolate King Kong; as well as apparel items.
“We are excited to offer a new and improved shopping experience. The re-design has enhanced one of the core elements of the Empire State Building Experience and improves engagement in the retail store,” commented Anthony E. Malkin, chairman and CEO, Empire State Realty Trust.
