Turkish Armed Forces begin construction of observation posts in Idlib

The Turkish Armed Forces have begun to build observation posts in the de-escalation zone in Syrian Idlib. This is stated in the statement of the General Staff of the republic spread on Friday.

According to the document, the military started building the points that will be used to monitor the ceasefire on October 12.

On Thursday evening, Ankara deployed troops and military equipment to Idlib. According to NTV, about 200 soldiers, including 120 special forces, as well as eight tanks and 50 armored personnel carriers, have been redeployed to the Syrian province.

On October 9, the Turkish General Staff announced the start of an operation in Idlib. The military entered the territory of Syria on October 8 and conducted reconnaissance in order to equip observation posts. They will be used to monitor compliance with the ceasefire regime.

Since the beginning of May, four de-escalation zones have been created in Syria, an agreement was reached in Astana by representatives of Russia, Iran and Turkey. At the moment, there are three zones: in the south-west of the country, in Eastern Ghouta (a suburb of Damascus) and in the area of ​​the city of Homs. The fourth zone includes the province of Idlib and parts of the neighboring provinces of Aleppo, Latakia and Hama.
